Kentucky Color: Autumn Harvest

2024-10-06 - Great Wooded South - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge
Billy Joe writes, "These Dogwood fruit (drupes) are not falling to the ground on their own. They are bounty that has been dislodged by the feeding frenzy taking place overhead. For thirty years I've been observing this annual Autumn harvest by both birds and squirrels. Most of the activity is from birds, however. Robins, Gray Catbirds and what I believe to be female Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are on a continual rotation in and out of the feeding zone to and from staging areas in surrounding hardwood trees."
