Mary Etta Sapp Dudgeon, Taylor County, KY (1933-2018)


She professed faith in Christ as a young girl and followed her faith for Christ through her life. She was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church. Mary Etta was an employee of the Taylor County Clerk's Office for some 23 years, a member of the Taylor Republican Women's Club for many years and a long-time proprietor of Sapp's Lake in Merrimac, KY. She was a beautiful lady inside and out and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved everyone deeply. She was a member of old-line pioneer and leading South Central Kentucky families. She was the daughter of the late John Floyd Sapp & Cleo Cave Sapp, and the widow of Donald A. Dudgeon. She leaves leaves nine direct living descendants including an expected great granddaughter.

Mary Etta Sapp Dudgeon, 85, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 9:40pmET, Monday, June 18, 2018.

Funeral service of Mary Etta Sapp Dudgeon will be at 10amCT/11amET, Friday, June 22, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Drew Hayes, Rev. Arnold Moon and Rev. Brent Gupton. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, 200 Block W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the funeral home. Pallbearers: Clay Barnett, Steve Barnett, Ches Fuller, David Hayes, Drew Hayes, and Barry Sapp.

Mary Etta Sapp Dudgeon was the daughter of the late John Floyd Sapp & Cleo Cave Sapp. She was born May 13, 1933, in Taylor County, KY. She died Monday, June 18, 2018 at the age of 85 years, one month, and five days.

She professed faith in Christ as a young girl and followed her faith for Christ through her life. She was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church. Mary Etta was an employee of the Taylor County Clerk's Office for some 23 years, a member of the Taylor Republican Women's Club for many years and a long-time proprietor of Sapp's Lake in Merrimac, KY. She was a beautiful lady inside and out and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved everyone deeply.

She united in marriage to Donald A. Dudgeon, June 6, 1953 and he preceded her in death June 8, 2012.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Sapp, and two brothers in infancy.

She is survived by:
  • One son and two daughters: Allen Dudgeon, Donna Hayes and husband, David and Henrietta Barnett and husband, Steve, all of Campbellsville, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Dana Hayes Fuller and husband, Ches of Lexington, KY; and Drew Allen Hayes and wife, Sarah, and Clay Evan Barnett, all of Campbellsville, KY

  • Three great-grandchildren: Clara Grace Fuller, Eli Chesley Fuller, and Anniston Hayes

  • An expected great-granddaughter

  • One nephew: Barry Sapp of Louisville, KY

  • Special caregiver and friend, Nettie Cox of Campbellsville, KY

  • And many other relatives and friends.
