Lewis Garrison, Adair County, KY (1937-2017)

He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Green County, a U.S. Army veteran. In 1969 he founded Garrison Construction Company and operated the company for over 40 years. Mr. Garrison was a supporter of education at all levels and he served on the Board of Trustees of Lindsey Wilson College for several years. He was a devoted and proud member of the Columbia-Adair County community. He served on various city and county development boards including the airport board and ambulance board, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge # 96, Louisville Scottish Rite, Kosairs, National Utility Contractors Association, American Road and Transportation Builders, the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors and a founding member of the Associate Builder and Contractors. An antique tractor and vehicle enthusiast, Garrison restored numerous antique tractors. He belonged to several antique tractor clubs and received numerous awards for his restoration work. His wife of 55 years, Gayle Corbin Garrison, survives. He leaves 14 direct living descendants.

Lewis Garrison, 80 ,of the Clay Ridge Community of Adair County. passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 4:02pmET at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY after a short illness.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 4, 2107 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Rod Keltner, Bro. Gary Polston and Bro. Steve Pescosolido, the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1272 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097, Masonic rites will be conferred by Columbia Lodge # 96 on Sunday night at 7pmCT at the funeral home. Visitation will be after 2pmCT, Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the funeral home.



Lewis Garrison, Adair County, KY (1937-2017)


He was born April 26, 1937 in Adair County, KY the son of the late Roy Allen & Ruth Thomas and his step mother Rosa C. Thomas Garrison. He died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the age of 80 years, seven months, and three days. He was preceded in death by one sister Eva Lee Baker in 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gayle Corbin Garrison of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One daughter: Amy Mitchum and husband Mike, of Columbia, KY

  • One son: James Garrison and wife Paula of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Sam Garrison and wife Wynemia of Campbellsville, KY

  • One sister: Patsy Jenkins of Greensburg, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Michael (Tiffany) Mitchum, Mary (Levi) Burton, Kayla (Trent) Jones, and Clint Garrison

  • Seven great grandchildren

  • One great-great grandchild
