Katie Jean McKinney, 68, Adair Co., KY (1947-2016)

She was of the Methodist faith. Katie & her late husband Robert sang with the Tri-County Gospel Aires, loved singing with the group and also singing just themselves. She had worked at OshKosh B’Gosh, and at Shepherd Grade Center as a cook and an aid. She was a member of a very large, respected Northeast Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Lether G. & Ruthie M. Bryant Burton and the widow of Robert McKinney. She leaves one direct living descendant, a son Dwayne McKinney

Katie Jean McKinney age 68 years of the Liberty Road, Columbia, KY passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at 8:04pmET, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY after an illness.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Hugh Withers and Bro. Richard Lehman officiating. Interment will be in Bearwallow Cemetery, 6080 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the funeral home.



Katie Jean McKinney, 68, Adair Co., KY (1947-2016)

She was born on Wednesday, June 4, 1947 in Adair County. She was the daughter of the late Lether G. & Ruthie M. Bryant Burton. She died Friday January 29, 2016, in Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, at the age of 68 years, seven months, and 25 days.

She preceded in death by her husband, Robert McKinney on October 3, 2013. She was also preceded in death six brothers & one sister Joseph Burton, Zenith Burton, Jimmy Burton, Ronald “Moon Beam” Burton, Gobel Burton, Minny Burton and Wanda Burton.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Dwayne McKinney and his special friend Lesara Pierce of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Onda Wayne Burton and Wendell (Faye) Burton of Columbia, KY

  • Sisters-in-law: Rachel Burton of Columbia, KY and Judy Burton of Campbellsville, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews & a host of other relatives & friends
