Obituary: James T. Emerson, 93 Casey Co., KY

He was the head of a large, respected Casey Co., KY, family. He leaves 65 living descendants. Mr. Emerson was a member of Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church. He was a carpenter and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II

James T. Emerson, 93, Tennessee Ridge RD, Liberty, KY, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Casey County Hospital in Liberty, KY.

The funeral service will be at 2pmET/1pmCT, Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church, with Bros. Danny Bailey, Casey Davis, and Darrell Coe officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.



Pallbearers are Larry Raley, Darin Emerson, Troy Emerson, George and Andrew Peek, and Brent Emerson.

James T. Emerson, Casey Co., KY (1916-2010)

James T. Emerson was the son of the late W.C. "Buddy" Emerson and Myrtle Grooms Emerson. He was born in Casey Co., KY on May 8, 1916 and died March 27, 2010, at Liberty, Casey Co., KY, at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

He was a carpenter and was a member of Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Marie Phillipe Emerson, , Liberty, KY, and the following:
  • Three daughters: Joann and (John) Miller, Hustonville, KY; Jean and (Carl) Raley, Mt. Washington, KY; and Susie Peek, Crab Orchard, KY

  • Three sons: R.C. and (Kelli) Emerson, Somerset, KY; Murrell and (Connie) Emerson, South Carolina; and Carroll Dean and (Dixie) Emerson of Indiana

  • Twenty grandchildren

  • Twenty-six great grandchildren

  • Thirteen great great grandchildren

  • Four sisters: Edith Wright of Indiana; and Mollie Vaughn, Ollie Allen, and Marie Allen, all of Liberty, KY
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Ida Grooms, Donnie Lee, Alice Henderson, and Beulah Farris; five brothers, Amos, Everett, Pete, Leslie, and John Emerson; three grandchildren, Frankie and Tony Emerson and Suzanne Peek; two great grandchildren, Chris and Amanda Reed; and one son in law, Tommy Peek.

McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville RD, Liberty, KY, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
