Obituary: Leonard Opal Burress, Taylor Co., KY

Mr. Burress was a member of a respected East Taylor County family with strong roots also in Adair County and Russell County, KY

Leonard Opal Burress, age 88, of Burress Hollow Road, Elk Horn, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY, after an illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM, Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home, 503 East Main ST, Campbellsville, KY, with Bro. Chris Copher the officiating clergy, Burial to follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery. Visitation5-8 pmET/4-7pmCT, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the funeral home.



Leonard Opal Burress, Taylor Co., KY (1921-2010)

He was the son of the late Elet and Artie Bottoms Burress. He was born Tuesday, April 19, 1921 and died Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the age 88 years, 8 months, and 25 days.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Miller Edith Burress. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Winfrey Burress, three sisters, Naomi Huddleston, Nellie Gilbert and Vernon Perkins.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Burress of Elk Horn and the following:
  • Two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Sammuel Cox of Elkhorn and Wanda and Randell Mings of Lexington, KY

  • Two step sons: Larry Murray of Ohio and Tommy Murray of Columbia, KY

  • Five step daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie and Glendal Thrasher of Columbia, KY; Irene and Jerry Nelson, Juanita and Wilbur Passmore, Joyce and David Redman, and Judy and Jamie Higginbotham all of Russell County, KY

  • Two grandchildren, Eddie and Monica Cox and Tammy and Adrian Taylor all of Lexington, three great grandchildren, Tanner Cox, A. J. Price and Chris Arnold and one brother Ancil Burress of Campbellsville, KY
