Obituary: Joyce Dean Slinker Campbell, 70, Adair Co. native

Mrs. Campbell was born in Columbia, KY, and attended Columbia and Adair County Schools. She is warmly remembered by classmates and friends from childhood from the Jamestown Hill and Jones Wright Addition neighborhoods of Columbia. She was the widow of the late Davis Campbell. She was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Temple. She worked for Fruit of the Loom for 11 years, for Walmart for 11 years, and for several years as a caregiver for her husband.

Funeral services for Joyce Dean Slinker Campbell will be at 11amET/10amCT, Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon AV, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. B.C. Gillispie. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 3878 Greensburg RD, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will Monday, January 4, 2010, from 5-9pmET/4-8pmCT, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers are Harry Gill, Bernie Mings, Sam Parson, Odis Sinclair, Rudy Stacy, and Danny Webb. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Bishop, Russell Burris, Marvin Martin, and Richard Woodhouse.

Joyce Dean Slinker Campbell of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Nathan Slinker and Matra Karnes Slinker was born in Columbia, KY, April 16, 1939. She died at 4:20pmET, Thursday, December 31, 2009, in Campbellsville, KY, at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 15 days.

She united in marriage to Virgil Davis Campbell June 17, 1967. He preceded her in death December 2, 2007.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Temple.

She was a homemaker, worked at Fruit of the Loom for eleven years, Walmart for eleven years, and several years as a caregiver for her husband.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son and one daughter: Ricky Janes and wife, Lisa; and Shannon Bishop and husband, Derek

  • Three grandsons: Jonathan Janes and wife, Carla; Benjamin Janes, and Campbell Lane Bishop

  • Two step-grandchildren: Whitney Spurling and Wade Burton

  • One great-grandson: Brayden Taylor Janes

  • One step-great-grandson: Zachary Gibson; all of Campbellsville, KY

  • One nephew: Gary Slinker of Eufala, AL

  • And many friends
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rhonda Gail Campbell April 11, 2003 and her brother, Woodruff "Woody" Slinker, July 14, 1965.
