Marshall Marvin Oakes, 70, Russell Springs, KY (1950-2020)

Marshall Marvin Oakes of Russell Springs passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow. He was 70 years old.

The funeral service for Marshall Marvin Oakes will be held at 2pmCT on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Kelly Burton and Bro. Darrin Blair officiating. Interment will follow in the Freedom Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmCT to 8pmCT on Friday, and from 8amCT to 2pmCT on Saturday.


He was born May 13, 1950 in Russell County to the late Junie & Lorene Crockett Oakes.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five siblings; Phillip Oakes, Paul Oakes, Lilburn Oakes, Darlene Crabtree, Lewell Oakes and a special friend, Golda Conover

Survived by:

• 1 son: James Oakes, Russell Springs
• 1 stepson: Earl Conover, Russell Springs
• 1 stepdaughter: Marilyn Smith, Russell Springs
• 2 brothers: Ruel (Margaret) Oakes, Russell Springs, and Dewell (Joyce) Oakes, Columbia
• 2 sisters: Reva (Darren) Richardson, and Gila (Dean) Gaskins, Louisville
