LWC Football loses defensive battle at Presbyterian 10-0 By Christopher Coombs Clinton, S.C. - The Lindsey Wilson football team fell to Presbyterian (S.C.) 10-0 on Thursday night at Bailey Memorial Stadium in a defensive battle. The loss by LWC marks the first time the Blue Raiders have dropped a regular season game since losing to Reinhardt on Oct. 22 during the 2016 season. It also marks the first time Lindsey Wilson has been shut out in a game since the programs inaugural season in 2010. Lindsey Wilson (3-1) was outgained by Presbyterian (2-1) 337 to 301 as the Blue Raiders edged out the Blue Hose's through the air 176-155. Cameron Dukes completed 12 of 26 passing attempts for 139 yards, adding 46 yards on the ground. Blake Ingleton had 17 carries for 73 yards. The Blue Raiders received the opening kick as Jaylen Boyd returned it from the goal line 54 yards, all the way to the Presbyterian 46-yard line. Lindsey Wilson was unable to take advantage of their starting field position as a quick three-and-out gave the ball to the Blue Hose. On the ensuing Presbyterian drive, they were able to put the game's first points on the board when Gardner Duckworth made a field goal from 33-yards out. The Blue Hose put together a 14 play, 62-yard drive that used up just over eight minutes of clock. Lindsey Wilson was facing a 3rd and 14 from their own 21-yard line when Dukes connected with Jay Gaudlock for 31 yards. Later Facing a 4th and two, LWC quarterback Dukes powered his way behind a stout offensive line to pick up six and move the ball to the Blue Hose 40. Three plays later LWC again faced a fourth down. Needing three yards the Blue Raiders failed to convert, turning the ball over on downs. Presbyterian's Jarius Jeter then got two carries, the first for 41 yards and the second for six to put the Blue Hose deep in Lindsey Wilson territory at the 34-yard line. Moments later lightning was spotted in the surrounding Clinton, S.C., area halting play just before the start of the start of the second quarter. The delay would last one hour and thirteen minutes with play being resumed at 7:48 p.m. CT. Out of the delay, The Blue Raiders were able to force a punt and then started their drive from their own 20-yard line. Rushes by Ingleton of 19 and two yards and a rush of 13 by Dukes pushed LWC into Blue Hose territory at the 46. Momentum was stopped on a third down when Presbyterian was able to get to Dukes on a sack that resulted in a loss of eight, forcing a punt. Jared Dougherty was able to pin the Blue Hose inside their own five yard line at the four on the punt, but Presbyterian was able to string together a 15 play, 77-yard drive all the way to the LWC 19-yard line before attempting a field goal. On the attempt, a low snap forced the holder to improvise but Mark Pruitt made the tackle giving the ball back to Blue Raider offense at their own 32 with 2:06 left in the half. Five plays later LWC would punt the ball away to PC before the Blue Hose would run out the remaining 34 seconds in the half, taking a 3-0 advantage into the locker room. Presbyterian outgained Lindsey Wilson 177 to 101 in total yards in the half as they managed 95 yards on the ground and 83 through the air to the Blue Raiders 47 rushing yards and 54 passing yards. The Blue Raider defense continued its bend but don't break style on Presbyterian's first drive of the second half. PC started from their own 19 and managed to move all the way to the LWC 38 before punting the ball away. Jackson Boland's punt was downed on the Lindsey Wilson one yard line. Lindsey Wilson used three straight rushing plays to move away from their own goal line, giving them a fourth and short from their own ten yard line that Blake Ingleton was able to convert. Dukes then connected with Cam Wyche through the air for a gain of 25 yards to the LWC 39 yard line. On the next play, Dukes pitched the ball to Darius Clark who was able to find an open Wyche who was caught from behind at the Blue Hose 24-yard line. A few plays later a holding call prevented LWC from scoring the first touchdown of the game and pushed them back 10 yards to their 29 yard line for a third and fifteen. Dukes managed to pick up 12 yards on third down. LWC tried to convert their third successful fourth down attempt of the night but Ingleton was stacked up in the backfield for a loss of two yards. Presbyterian again mounted another long drive on the Blue Raider defense but this time LWC was unable to force a stop. The Blue Hose's quarterback John Walker capped off a 13 play, 81 yard drive when he found DaShawn Davis who was able to break a few tackles on a fourth and one from the LWC seven yard line. The touchdown increased the Presbyterian lead to 10-0. The Lindsey Wilson offense responded with a 74-yard drive on the ensuing possession, making it all the way to the Presbyterian six yard line but an untimely interception halted their chances. The Blue Raiders would get the ball back with 6:08 left in the game but were forced to punt the ball away when Dukes was sacked for a 10-yard loss on third down from their own 36. LWC's defense forced a three-and-out as the offense took over with 2:10 left on the clock but ran out of time on their comeback bid. Trent Mueller led the way for the Blue Raider defense recording nine tackles, seven solo, as Joe Lewis and C.J. Dickerson both added eight of their own. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2:30pmCT on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, as the Blue Raiders play host to Cincinnati Christian in what will be a Homecoming game at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.
