Anetna Walker Russell, 86, Gradyville/Louisville, KY (1931-2018)

Those who knew Anetna appreciated her quick wit, fierce resilience, and prowess at the Blackjack table, but her greatest joy in life was her family, who will miss their "Goonie" dearly.

Anetna Walker Russell, 86, died Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Episcopal Church Home.

A memorial service in honor of Anetna will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 1pmET, at 1400 Willow Avenue, Louisville, with visitation to follow until 3pmET. In memoriam donations can be made to Gilda's Club Louisville.

She was born in Gradyville, KY, on March 17, 1931, daughter to Hobson and Opal (Waggener) Walker, and sister to Ralph Russell "Pete" Walker.

Anetna married James "Jim" V. Russell while at Lindsey Wilson College, and after graduating, taught elementary school briefly in Adair County, KY. Anetna accompanied Jim to Germany and France during his service in the Air Force, and then to Chicago where she taught kindergarten and Jim began his career as a pilot with Eastern Airlines. The Russells eventually made their permanent home in Louisville.

Those who knew Anetna appreciated her quick wit, fierce resilience, and prowess at the Blackjack table, but her greatest joy in life was her family, who will miss their "Goonie" dearly.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Russell Jorrisch, her husband of 67 years, James V. Russell, and brother, Pete Walker.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Jaime Schwartz (Eric), Micah Jorrisch (Fiona), and Allie Jorrisch; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Mary, and Abigail.
