Art exhibit for September to feature LOCALS potters By Amber Wright CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Living on Clay and Louisville Soil (LOCALS), a professional pottery group, has an exhibit at The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery at Campbellsville through Sept. 28. There will be a closing reception at 2:30-4pmCT/3:30-5pmET Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 where you can meet the potters behind the work displayed. This group began in the early 1980s. Sarah Fredrick, a potter in Louisville, Ky., invited other clay artists to join her for an annual holiday sale. This quickly became a tradition, and several years later the group had its first official show. The LOCALS group is made up of several highly regarded ceramic artists, according to Davie Reneau, associate professor of art who serves as gallery director. Over the years, several of the artists have moved on from the group but are still well connected and close friends. Reneau was a member of this group for 20 years. However, the demands of teaching as a full-time professor at Campbellsville University left her with not enough time to be in the studio. This led to her retirement from the group, but she is still connected with the group and their shows and is sometimes a guest artist. For September, the monthly art exhibit is showing work from the LOCALS group. Not all members of this group are represented, but six members have brought ceramics to show. The participants for this show are Wayne Ferguson, Tonya Johnson, Susie Hatcher, Amy Rench, Alex Adams and Amy Elswick.
