LWC Volleyball hits way to a 3-0 win at Cumberlands By Chris Wells Williamsburg, KY - Klara Mikelova and Sarah Cruz combined for 35 kills to lead No. 4 Lindsey Wilson volleyball to a sweep of host Cumberlands (Ky.) tonight at the UC Volleyball Gym. The Blue Raider duo helped Lindsey Wilson post a .370 attacking percentage in the 25-14, 25-14, 25-12 win. Cruz hit a team-high .467 in the match while Mikelova ended hitting .378. Elly Burke joined the hit parade with six kills and a .429 attacking percentage. Cumberlands started the match with thoughts of an upset. The Patriots led 6-2 and 7-4 in the early stages before the Blue Raiders (12-2, 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference) seized control. Cruz produced three straight kills to tie the set at 7-7 and ignite the Blue Raiders. The three kills began a 12-3 run for Lindsey Wilson to give the Blue Raiders the 16-10 lead. Cruz and Burke exchanged kills over the final four points of the set to give Lindsey Wilson the first set 25-14. Cruz posted five kills in the frame while Mikelova and Burke added four and three kills, respectively. The two teams went back-and-forth early in the second set. Lindsey Wilson dominated the middle part of the set, turning a 9-7 lead into an 18-9 advantage. Mikelova led the run with three of her nine kills in the set. The Blue Raiders kept the Patriots (9-5, 1-1) at bay the remainder of the set en route to a 25-14 win. Much like the first set, Cumberlands got off to a good start in the third, scoring the first three points. Lindsey Wilson scored seven of the next eight points and 10 of the next 12 to stifle the Patriots' comeback hopes. Lindsey Wilson ultimately led by 13 points in the set to clinch the sweep and extend its winning streak over Mid-South competition to 32 matches. Autumn Proctor orchestrated the Lindsey Wilson offense with 36 assists -- her highest total in a three-set match this season. She added three kills and seven digs on the evening. Defensively, Lilo Larzelere recorded a match-high 25 digs. She also contributed two service aces in the win. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 14, as the Blue Raiders travel to Life (Ga.), 1269 Barclay Cir, Marietta, GA. This story was posted on 2018-09-14 06:34:02
