Parker - so named because he'd appeared out of the blue at the Roadside Park next door to his adopted home - checked out guests attending the annual Columbia/Adair County Chamber Picnic Tuesday evening, September 11, 2018. Barbara Bryant said the little dog appeared around the park for a couple of weeks, looking lost and hungry, before coming directly to her doorstep and communicating his need for a home. She said she was a cat person so when she brought Parker into her home there was a period of tense adjustment among the pets, but all is well now. - LW

Josh Karnes was the surprise guest at the Columbia/Adair County 2018 Annual Picnic who answered the call, "Is there an auctioneer in the house"? He works full time for Clark Distribution and in his spare time he said, does "a little auctioneering." He got many words of thanks and praise for how well he conducted the auction, how he prompted for the next bid, waited, then moved the bidding forward in the fundraiser at the Picnic where proceeds go to help maintain the park. - LW
