FRYSC director Sue Crabtree retires after nearly three decades By Calen McKinney She has spent nearly three decades making sure students have what they need to be successful - Campbellsville Family Resource and Youth Services Center Director Sue Crabtree has retired after working for Campbellsville Independent Schools since 1991. Crabtree began working for Campbellsville Independent Schools in 1991, as an instructional assistant at Campbellsville Elementary School. She began working at FRYSC in 1994, as an advocate. In 2005, Crabtree became the FRYSC coordinator. In a special ceremony honoring Crabtree, CIS Superintendent Kirby Smith honored and thanked her for always caring for her students. "Thank you for all that you've done for the kids," he said. "There's a lot of families that you've helped over the year," Smith said. "You know the impact that these offices have." Smith said people sometimes don't get a "thank you" for the services they provide, but seeing someone several years later and them expressing their gratitude then is very rewarding. He said Crabtree has helped many families receive food, learn about parenting, find prom dresses for their daughters, secure a babysitter and so much more. Smith said Crabtree's job duties can't really be put into words. "You can't really explain to somebody what it is you do," he said. "The easy way to explain it is, there's a barrier, and we try to break that barrier." One day, Smith said, that could mean providing a toothbrush and deodorant to a student in need and the next day it could mean finding a student a place to live, food, a prom dress, school supplies and tutoring. "You have to wear a lot of hats," he said. "You have to have a lot of resources." Crabtree was presented a plaque in honor of her years of service to CIS. Courtney Mills, who had served as an assistant in the guidance office at Campbellsville Elementary School, will become the new FRYSC director. This story was posted on 2018-09-01 01:34:49
