He was a longtime construction worker. He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY. He was the patriarch of a large, respected family. He leaves 48 direct living descendants. He was the widower of Hilda Cary Franklin. His final resting place will be in Marrowbone, Cumberland County, KY.

James Douglas Franklin, 87 of Marrowbone, KY, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Cumberland County Hospital, Burkesville, KY.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 20, 2018 at 10amCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in the Franklin-Davis Cemetery in Marrowbone, KY. The family requests visitation on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 6pm until 9pmCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.



James Douglas Franklin, 87, Marrowbone, KY (1931-2018)


James was born in Cumberland County, KY on May 27, 1931. He was the son of the late James Ewing Franklin. He died Friday, August 17, 2018, in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, at the age of 87 years, two months, and 21 days.

He was a longtime construction worker.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Ewing Franklin' his wife, Hilda Cary Franklin; and one sister, Joyce Hurt.

Survivors include:
  • Eight children - Sandy Hoots of Auburn, KY; Brad Franklin of Marrowbone, KY; Mark Franklin of Newberry, SC; Joe Franklin of Marrowbone, KY; Cary Franklin of Franklin, IN; Crystal Garmon of Burkesville, KY; John Franklin of Marrowbone, KY; and Sue Parke of Dubre, KY

  • Twenty grandchildren

  • Twenty great grandchildren

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
