Jeff Richardson honored at retirement from CIS in June

By Calen McKinney

Campbellsville Independent Schools' staff members honored one of their own recently at a luncheon hosted in honor of Jeff Richardson's retirement. He served as director of pupil personnel and food service until he retired last month.

Richardson worked in education for 29 years, 24 of which were at CIS. Superintendent Kirby Smith said the Eagle family wishes Richardson the best in retirement, and appreciates everything he has done for students and parents.

"From my standpoint, as a principal, Mr. Richardson was always helpful," Smith said.

Smith said Richardson has a great ability to diffuse situations.

"Anybody could come in mad, but when they leave his office, they're happy. They're going to feel like they've won, whether they have or not."

And in his first year as superintendent, Smith said, Richardson has provided great advice and ideas to help move the District forward.

"I'm going to miss that," Smith said.

Tim Tungate, transportation director, said he has known Richardson for a very long time.

"He's been a real help to me and everybody here," Tungate said.

"I've seen some of the maddest people in the world walk through that door and he'll have them eating out of his hands before they leave."

Tungate said Richardson has been great to work with, and an even better friend.

"I'm going to miss him, especially," Tungate said.

David Petett, director of federal programs and food service, said Richardson is one of the most efficient and professional people he has ever called a co-worker.

"He's got backbone," Petett said. "What he says, he means. What he tells you, you can take to the bank."

On behalf of the Board of Education members, member Barkley Taylor said she has enjoyed working with Richardson and appreciates his service.

"Jeff has been a great addition to our school system," she said.

Many of Richardson's food service employees spoke about their experiences working with him.

"He's been an excellent boss. He's been an excellent friend," Shelly Wilson, who works in the Campbellsville Elementary School cafeteria, said.

Richardson said he has been considering retirement for several years.

"I'm not leaving this District," he said. "I'll always be part of this District."

Richardson has always said he would retire after his son Bryce graduated high school, and that turned out to be true.

Bryce graduated from CHS in May and is now training at the U.S. Naval Academy.

"I appreciate everything," Richardson said. "Thank you all for everything."
