Activities at Salato for National Hunting and Fishing Day National Hunting and Fishing Day events at Salato will include 3-D archery, archery trap shooting, air rifles, casting and fishing. Click on headline for complete story Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources invites people of all ages to celebrate hunting, fishing and the great outdoors at the Salato Wildlife Education Center, 1 Sportsman's Ln, Frankfort, KY, 10am-3pmCT/11am-4pmET, Saturday, August 11, 2018. "This is a great way for beginners of any age to receive a fun, hands-on introduction to fishing and shooting sports," said Salato Conservation Educator Geoff Roberts. Activities and demonstrations will run from 11amET to 4pmET, with free admission into the center during this event. The center features native wildlife in naturalized enclosures, conservation exhibits and paved walking trails through a variety of habitats. During this event, Lower Sportsman's Lake will be reserved for those participating in the kayaking demonstrations. Participants will have the opportunity to paddle a fishing kayak, and even try their hand at kayak fishing in the stocked lake. Salato Center staff will provide all necessary equipment, poles and bait. Lower Sportsman's Lake will reopen for public fishing at 5 p.m. Upper Sportsman's Lake, the larger of the two lakes on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife campus, will remain open to all anglers throughout the day. National Hunting and Fishing Day events will also include a presentation by conservation officers on law enforcement and water safety, and a tutorial on game calls. Food and drinks will be available for purchase during this family friendly event. Hunting and fishing licenses are available for purchase at the center. Individuals can also complete the range day portion of their hunter education course during the event. The Salato Center event recognizes the contributions to conservation made by the 713,000 Kentucky hunters and anglers, and the 35,000 jobs that hunting, fishing and outdoor activities support. For a detailed list of activities and times, contact the Salato Center at (502) 892-4460. The center is located off U.S. 60, approximately 1\0xBD miles west of the U.S. 127 intersection. Look for the bronze deer statue at the entrance of the main Kentucky Fish and Wildlife campus. Hours are 9amET to 5pmET Tuesday through Friday, and 10amET to 5pmET Saturday. Salato is closed on Sunday, Monday and state holidays. Except for select events, admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 5 to 18. Children under five are admitted free.
