Since March 12, 2018, in just 120 days, the Paz Holley committee, working with J.O.Y. Ministries, accepting gifts from churches, individuals and organizations, has brought this fund to over the halfway point, from zero to $68,868.

Stacey Wilson says, "now, if 40 businesses - or individuals - give a thousand dollars each, we'll buy this house and have those ten children in it before Thanksgiving!" She made her business gift from Community Medical and challenged ColumbiaMagazine.com which is accepting her challenge and joining the business goal at 8amCT July 20, 2018.

In the blinking of an eye on October 13, 2017, five young Adair County children became homeless when their mother was murdered and their father was taken to jail. Thanks to their aunt and uncle who already had five children of their own, the little Paz children now have the name Paz Holley, and with the help of hundreds of donors, they are going to have a home to fit the size of the family of 12 by Thanksgiving 2018.

With Stacey Wilson's donation presented to Paz Holley project chairman Rick Wilson and committee member Marian Grant, Paz-Holley's remaining balance is now $40,000 to buy the house, valued at $318,000, for the price Adanta has offered of $108,000.

There is much more to this story, the background details and the future of the family and the fundraising, and it will be added here in the days ahead. For this moment, we're joining the work of finding resources.

Solving home needs in Adair County, in big and small ways

2018-07-20 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Maggie Coleman advocates for those in need of housing in big and small ways through her work for J.O.Y. Ministries. Above at the July 10, 2018 meeting of Adair Fiscal Court, she advocated for a modest proposal to involve Adair County and City of Columbia Law Enforcement and 911 center in small project aimed at providing clean, comfortable temporary housing for the homeless in Adair County, with a solution costing less than $20,000. On a grander scale, deserving Adair County family is in need of a home; for that effort, she and others in the Paz-Holley Project are over half way toward their goal of $108,000. Now many, seeing that the project is soon to be a reality, are putting the fundraising effort into overdrive with some major gifts of over $1,000 each. - EW

2018-07-23 - FM2 lot, corner Merchant and Campbellsville Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo from Sandy Wilson.
Sandy Wilson has been making sure each donor to the Paz-Holley Project gets a thank you. She and husband Rick, at right, who is chairman of the fundraising effort, believe the youngest donor to date may be Kasey Blue Kessler, son of Tiffany and Eddie Kessler of Columbia. Sandy wrote, "Kasey Kessler donated all of his birthday money to Paz-Holley project a few weeks ago!! He just keeps on getting more precious!! Thank you, Kasey, for your big heart to help these ten sweet children." - SW
(If there has been a younger donor to the Project, we hope to hear about it so we can share a picture - you're never too young, nor too old, to help someone in need. Click read-more for the details. Or if you're viewing on a phone, just go to stories and search Paz-Holley.) - Linda Waggener)
