The second "Shakespeare in the Barn" production, Shakespeare's comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona will be performed in the show barn at Homeplace on Green River July 21, 2018. The first show of the season, Smoke on the Mountain, drew a crowd of more than 100 June 30 despite the record heat.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona deals with the themes of friendship and infidelity, the conflict between friendship and love, and the foolish behavior of people in love. The highlight of the play, believed to have been written between 1589 and 1593, is considered by some to be Launce, the clownish servant of Proteus, and his dog Crab.

The summer plays at Homeplace are part of TheatreFest!, a series of performances produced by Lindsey Wilson College Director of Theater, Robert Brock. The stage at the Homeplace show barn was designed by Brock.

The third show scheduled at Homeplace July 28, 2018, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, has been canceled. The show includes many children actors. Although Homeplace has made significant steps to improve air circulation in the barn since the first play, the possibility of exposing children to uncomfortable heat was of concern.

The The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe will be shown at Lindsey Wilson College's V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, July 25, 26, 27 and 29, 2018. (See Events in ColumbiaMagazine.com on each of those dates for details-CM)

Reservations for The Two Gentlemen of Verona can be made by contacting Phil Hanna at 270-384-2894 or via e-mail at cphanna51@msn.com. The cost is $20 for the dinner and show or $10 for just the show. For additional information go homeplacefarmky.org.
