Submitted by Janet Cowherd and Jelaine Harlow

Adair County WATCH (working actively toward community health) Coalition and Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) recently secured a "mini" grant through Appalachian Diabetes Control and Translation Project (ADCTP).

The goal of this grant is to reduce the prevalence of chronic disease in Adair County by encouraging children and youth to increase fresh produce in their diets.

The Farmers Market on the Square was awarded $1,050 for Kids Buck Vouchers. Beginning Saturday June 23, 2018 each child visiting the Farmers Market on the Square can receive a $4 voucher to purchase fresh fruits and/or vegetables. For more information visit the market and see Donna Jones or Darrell Burnell.

The grant also provided funds for educational materials for children which the market will be distributing as well. Lake Cumberland District Health Department and Farmers Market on the Square are delighted to collaborate to improve the health of youth in Adair County.
