Single vehicle accident on LBN Pkwy takes life of Columbia man

According to the Russell County Sheriff's Department release, a single vehicle accident just before 9pmCT Sunday, June 17, 2018 on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway claimed the life of an Adair County man.



Deputy Nathan Ginn's preliminary investigation determined Jimmy L. Hughes, 68, of Columbia lost control of his Jeep Liberty while eastbound, resulting in the vehicle crossing the center median, striking and traveling through a guardrail, overturning, then coming to rest in a grassy area adjacent to the westbound lane.

Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Russell County Coroner's office. The accident occurred approximately 1 1/2 miles west of the Russell Springs interchange.

Members of the Russell Springs Fire Department and Russell Springs Police Department also responded.
