Safia Bright wins program's first NAIA national track title Lindsey Wilson Women's Track & Field finishes 10th Click on headline for complete story w/photos By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director Bright captured the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.68 seconds. She broke the tape just in front of Southern-New Orleans' (LA) Argyana Bolton's 11.72. Bolton had the fastest qualifying time on Friday. Bright becomes the second woman in Lindsey Wilson track & field history to win a national title and the first to do it outdoors. Anine Stanley won the indoor 3,000-meter race walk title in 2005. Bright nearly made it a double in the 200. She finished just behind Bolton to post a runner-up finish to earn eight points towards the team total. Bright ran the 200 in 23.85 seconds while Bolton finished in 23.68 seconds. Alexia DeHaven-Boyd captured a point for the Blue Raiders for her eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. DeHaven-Boyd completed the race in 1:04.52. Southern-New Orleans' Kimona Smikle won the event in 57.63 seconds. Paige Pettell and Leia Gregory completed on Saturday but did not score points for the Blue Raiders. Pettell finished 16th in the discus with a throw of 39.22 meters (128-8 feet). Gregory did not record a height in her three attempts in the high jump. Lindsey Wilson completed the championships with 25 team points. In addition to today's 19 points, the Blue Raiders scored six points on Friday. Pettell posted a third-place finish in the shot put to collect the six team points. Southern-New Orleans edged British Columbia for the team title. Southern-New Orleans scored 64 points compared to British Columbia's 62. Indiana Tech finished third with 59 points.
