Adair County now provides option for proper flag disposal "This centrally-located drop-off provides convenience while respecting our national symbol." - JOE HARE, Commander, VFW Post 6097 Click on headline for complete story By Bridgett Compton Executive Secretary, Adair County Fiscal Court Adair County provides new option for proper disposal of worn U.S. Flags! In partnership with the National Association of Counties and the National Flag Foundation, Adair County has installed a flag retirement box, sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Counties, at no cost to the county, at the entrance to the Judge Executive- Michael Lee Stephens' office at the Adair County Courthouse Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. "It is with my greatest pleasure we are able to have this centralized location to honor our national flag along with the citizens of Adair County who have served our great nation!" said Judge Executive, Michael Lee Stephens. Flags should be folded respectfully before being place in the box. The United States Flag Code prescribes flag etiquette-everything from flying it near other flags to instructions on how to raise and lower it. "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning" says the code. Members of the local VFW have graciously accepted the responsibility for the honorable and proper disposal of the worn flags. Per VFW member Joe Hare "This centrally-located drop-off provides convenience while respecting our national symbol." This story was posted on 2018-05-17 15:46:49
