LWC track & field: Women in 1st, Men in 2nd

The Lindsey Wilson women's track and field team sits in first place after day one of the Mid-South Conference tournament held at Blue Raider Stadium on Sunday afternoon, while the Lindsey Wilson men's track and field sits in second place.

Lindsey Wilson's women earned 34 points on the day as Cumberlands (Ky.) sits in second with 30 points and Campbellsville (Ky.) is in third with 18.


Safia Bright earned First Team All Mid-South Conference honors when she captured first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.79 seconds. Alexia DeHaven-Boyd took third in the race when she crossed the finish line in 58.21, just .01 seconds behind Campbellsville's Savannah Gregory.

Paige Pettell took first place and earned First Team All-MSC in the hammer throw as De'Jah Smith took second place to earn Second Team All-MSC in the event. Pettell recorded a 50.49-meter throw as Smith added a 45.57-meter throw.

Oreatha Hurt sits in first place with 2086 points through the first four events of the heptathlon. Hurt took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time on 16.99 seconds for 597 points and tied for second in the high jump with teammate Rachel Browning at 1.47 meters for 588 points. She placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 5.86 meters for 262 points and finished the day with a third place finish in the 200-meter dash after posting a time of 27.91 seconds for 638 points.

Browning is in fourth place of the heptathlon with 1865 points, just three points out of third place, after the four events. Lindsey Wilson men's track and field earned 33 total team points on the first day of competition. Cumberlands (Ky.) sits in first place with 35 points and Campbellsville (Ky.) is in third with 23 points.

Cameron Murphy is in first place in the men's decathlon after five events with 3,150 points. Murphy finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.98 seconds to earn 655 points, third in the long jump with a distance of 6.13 meters gaining 615 points. Murphy was then runner-up in the shotput with a throw of 10.05 meters earning 489 point, tied for first in the high jump with 1.82 meters and won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.49.

Tony Brackins is second in the decathlon with 2, 903 points. Brackins earned 647 points in the 100 meter dash with a third-place finish, he then won the long jump with a distance of 6.39 meters. Brackins placed third in the shot put with a distance of 9.08 meters, finished third in the high jump and second in the 400 meter dash.

Jaylyn McMurry earned First Team All-MSC honors in the 400 meter dash. McMurry finished in 48.64 seconds finishing .08 seconds ahead of the runner up and earning 10 team points in the event. Christian Whitehead placed third in the 400 meter with a time of 49.53 and earning six team points.

Levi Owens finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:56.41 and earning six team points.
