Music, music, music: three concerts in six days at CU All of the university campus as well as the community, family, and friends are invited to attend all programs free of charge. McKinney, director, Office of University Communications CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Campbellsville University Concert Band, Jazz Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will be performing three concerts in six days, according to an announcement from Jennifer Tinnell, director of bands and instructor in music. On Tuesday evening, April 24, at 7pmCT/8pmET, the Concert Band will present their program called "Suite Encores" at Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky. This program features suites and movements from suites written for band as well as music often featured as concert closers. Tinnell said, during the concert, graduating seniors who are playing their last concert with the band will be recognized. "These seniors have devoted their time and skills while here at CU to playing in all sorts of musical ensembles. We want to take this opportunity to thank them for sharing their talents with us," she said. Graduates being recognized are: Sarah Bowman of Taylorsville, Jenny Carr of Frankfort, Madi Daulton of Somerset, Brianna Handy of Campbellsville, Patrick Howell of Campbellsville, Tanner James of Danville, Elaina Quinn of Versailles, Mallory Stevens of Sturgis, Sean Welch of Frankfort and Heaven Wells of Glasgow. Tinnell and Corey Bonds, assistant director of bands and instructor in music, are the directors of the Concert Band. The CU Jazz Orchestra will be in session on Friday night, April 27, 2018. The concert begins at 6:30pmCT/7:30pmET and will be hosted in The Gheens Recital Hall. Special guests of the Jazz Orchestra for the evening will be CU's Jazz Combo under the direction of Saulo DeAlmeida, instructor in music. The Jazz Orchestra will present the program, "Oh The Places We Go" featuring tunes such as Morocco, Weekend in Monaco, Jumpin East of Java, Cafe Rio and more. Tinnell is director of the jazz orchestra. The CU Wind Ensemble is a smaller group comprised of Campbellsville University's top wind and percussion musicians as well as some "outstanding performers within our community," Tinnell said. "This group performs some of the most challenging wind and percussion literature composed for its instrumentation," she said. The Wind Ensemble concert will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2pmCT/3pmET and will be in the Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky. A variety of time periods are represented that stretch from the early 20th century all the way to modern day compositions. "The resulting music is rich in melody and harmony while demanding intricate rhythms, unique timbres and innovative percussion writing," Tinnell said. This semester the program is called "A Century of Classics" and will feature a variety of wind band styles representing some of the most noted composers in this genre over the last 100 years. Tinnell and Bonds are conductors of the wind ensemble. All of the university campus as well as the community, family, and friends are invited to attend all three of these programs free of charge. "We hope you will join us and support these fine musicians in their accomplishments," Tinnell said. Campbellsville University is a widely-acclaimed Kentucky-based Christian university with more than 10,000 students offering over 90 programs of study including 20 master's degrees, six postgraduate areas and seven pre-professional programs. The university has off-campus centers in Kentucky cities Louisville, Harrodsburg, Somerset and Hodgenville with instructional sites in Elizabethtown, Owensboro, Summersville and Liberty, all in Kentucky, and one in Costa Mesa, Calif., and a full complement of online programs.
