Lindsey Baseball falls 5-4 to Indiana Southeast

New Albany, IN - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell in a road game to Indiana Southeast 5-4 on Wednesday night.

Alec Salcedo led Lindsey Wilson (21-21) with three hits and three RBIs as four other Blue Raiders added one hit in the game. The Blue Raiders outhit the Indiana Southeast (32-8) 7-5 but couldn't push enough runs across the plate to pick up the win.



Lindsey Wilson was able to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After two Blue Raiders opened the inning with outs, Ben Heideman doubled to left-center. Steven Calderon then singled to right-center to drive in Heideman for the games first run.

The Grenadiers were able to take the lead in the second inning after scoring two runs on two hits and one LWC error.

The Blue Raiders reclaimed the lead in the third inning when they pushed two runs across the plate on just one hit and one IU Southeast error. Seth Price led off the inning and reached base on a Grenadier misplayed grounder. Salcedo then hit a two run homerun on the first pitch of his at bat to give LWC a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Raider lead was short-lived as the Grenadiers were able to tack on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Nichols Lugo drove in two runs with a single to center.

After two scoreless innings IU Southeast was able to double their lead in the sixth when they scored one run on a Jordan Branz single that drove in Cody Maloon from second.

Larry Stewart led off the seventh inning with a walk and was able to advance into scoring position after he successfully stole second base. The Grenadiers picked up their first out of the inning on a strikeout, but Nick Sanders reached on a walk during the next at bat. Seth Price then reached base on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with two outs.

A Salcedo singled to left scored Stewart from third, cutting the Grenadier lead to just one at 5-4.

After a scoreless eighth inning LWC had one final chance in the ninth inning to level the score at five. Sanders and Salcedo reached base on walks but with two outs in the inning, Tyler Maskill struck out ending the Lindsey Wilson comeback attempt.

Chase Vanek picked up the win for IU Southeast as Andrew Yates got the save.
