Columbia was founded, he said, on this spot because two major buffalo trails crossed here, plus we had many rivers. People in the early days followed either the game trails or the waterways.

He said the good farmland here was celebrated, drawing people from North Carolina and Virginia who thought it was simply an eden.

Columbia was a diverse city even when there were just a few stores with women as well as men in business and an African American owned establishment. He said the economy was a good, strong one.

He shared many of the original family names along with educational institutions, up to and including Lindsey Wilson College.
