Columbia, Adair County moments in time shared by Mike Watson By Linda Waggener Adair County's popular historian Mike Watson spoke on the early history of Columbia and Adair County at the April 10, 2018 Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce meeting at Lindsey Wilson College. He is a captivating speaker/writer/actor who has published several books. Columbia was founded, he said, on this spot because two major buffalo trails crossed here, plus we had many rivers. People in the early days followed either the game trails or the waterways. He said the good farmland here was celebrated, drawing people from North Carolina and Virginia who thought it was simply an eden. Columbia was a diverse city even when there were just a few stores with women as well as men in business and an African American owned establishment. He said the economy was a good, strong one. He shared many of the original family names along with educational institutions, up to and including Lindsey Wilson College. This story was posted on 2018-04-10 22:40:10
