She was born in Taylor County, KY. She the daughter of the late Shelby Bottoms and Alice Greer Bottoms. She was the widow first of Pete Nelson, and later of Claude Cobb. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends; she never met a stranger.

Rita Nelson Cobb of Campbellsville, KY, died at 8:45amET, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Campbellsville. Age: 76

The funeral service will be at 10amCT/11amET, April 6, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Jim Durham and Rev. Dannie Nelson. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old US 68, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET,Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Rita Nelson Cobb was the daughter of the late Shelby Bottoms and Alice Greer Bottoms. She was born March 30, 1942, in Taylor County, KY. She died a Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 76 years and four days.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church.

She was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, KY, and a retired employee of Walmart.

She united in marriage to Pete Nelson August 15, 1959 and he preceded her in death May 2, 1978.

She later united in marriage to Claude Cobb July 15, 1989 and he preceded her in death February 26, 2005.

Rita enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends; she never met a stranger.

She is survived by:
  • One daughter and one son: Missy Chelf and husband, Doug of Campbellsville, KY; and Greg Nelson and wife, Lisa of Lexington, KY

  • Nieces she was like a mother to: Patty Phillips and Linda (Russell) Skaggs after the death of their mother

  • Six grandchildren: Austin Chelf, Candace Bradley and husband, Joey; Clay Nelson, Jessi Phillips, Jenny Skaggs and Andi Skaggs

  • Three great-grandchildren: Ava Bradley and Sophi and Kellan Glapion

  • One brother and two sisters: J. D. Bottoms and wife, Lori of Galveston, TX; Margaret Shively of Campbellsville, KY; and Mary Nelson of Louisville, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters: Ronald Bottoms, Ralph Bottoms, James Bottoms, Lenny Bottoms, Ruth Price, Carolyn Thompson, Leona Hughes and Hazel Beasley.
