Alexis Kessler wins her 2nd NAIA National Championship!

Amazing sophomore from Lexington, KY, becomes the first two-time national champion in program history. Kessler captured the 50 free title Thursday, March 2, 2018, with a time of 23.36 seconds. She captured the 100 fly title Friday, March 3, 2018, with a time of 56.07 which was .92 seconds faster than her preliminary heat time earlier in the day. Kessler picked up 20 team points with the victory.

Columbus, GA (Fri 2 Mar 2018) - Alexis Kessler won her second NAIA National Championship on Friday as she won the title in the 100-yard butterfly while Jessica Macdonald and the 200 medley relay team earned NAIA All-American honors on the third day of the 2018 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships at the Columbus Aquatic Center.



As a team, the Blue Raiders sit in fourth place with a total of 187 points. SCAD Savannah (GA) is first with 412 points. Olivet Nazarene is second with 362 points and Cumberlands (KY) is third with 269 total team points.



The sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky becomes the first two-time national champion in program history. Kessler captured the 50 free title yesterday with a time of 23.36 seconds. She captured the 100 fly title today with a time of 56.07 which was .92 seconds faster than her preliminary heat time earlier in the day. Kessler picked up 20 team points with the victory.

In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Bailey Seitz, Macdonald, Laura Stephenson and Kessler finished fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:49.36. Lindsey Wilson moved up two spots in the finals to third to earn All-American honors with a time of 1:47.96 and totaling 32 team points.

Macdonald picked up the third NAIA All-American honors for the Blue Raiders on the day in the 200 freestyle. She finished fifth with a time of 1:55.03 earning 14 points. In the preliminary heats, she placed sixth in 1:55.03.

Emily Wood picked up two team points in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.13. In the prelims of the 100 backstroke Sarah Hahn finished 24th while Seitz placed 30th. Caitlin Freeny placed 38th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Alexis Kessler is the granddaughter of Edward & Linda Kessler of Columbia, KY, and the daughter of Timothy Kessler and Lori Dennison Kessler, Lexington, KY. She has many relatives in Adair and surrounding counties who are very proud of her and now, even more so, since the amazing sophomore from Lexington became the first two-time national champion in LWC swimming program history. Kessler captured the 50 free title Thursday, March 2, 2018, with a time of 23.36 seconds.
