We must take care to not forget the past
for memories repeated slowly fade
while tales not often told tend not to last
and no new history is ever made.

Some story of a night from years ago,
unknown to family, is known to friend
because once singer on the radio
described the overnight she did not spend.

Another may find card or letter lost
until a thorough kind of cleaning up,
reporting some adventure and its cost
or mentioning a loved but common cup.

Hold on to expectation treasures wait
somewhere to be revealed at later date.
