Betty Jo Coffey Phillips, 80, Adair County, KY (1938-2018)

She was a teacher in the Adair County School System for over 40 years. She taught in one room schools and at Knifley and Shepherd Grade Centers. She was a graduate of Campbellsville College and received her Masters Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Betty was very active in the Adair County and Taylor County Homemakers Clubs. She was a native of Louisville, KY, and a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death here. She was the daughter of the late Fred Warren & Ada B. Workman Coffey. She was the widow of Joe Phillips. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Betty Jo Coffey Phillips, 80, of Pellyton and Campbellsville, KY, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:40pmCT in the Columbia nursing home.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 2, 2018 at 1pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Clergy officiating Bro. Paul Patton & Bro. Ed Loy. Interment will follow in Pellyton Cemetery, 100 Pellyton East Road, Pellyton (Adair County) KY. The family requests visitation after 3pmCT Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the funeral home.



Betty Jo Coffey Phillips, 80, Adair County, KY (1938-2018)

She was born January 24, 1938 in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Fred Warren & Ada B. Workman Coffey. She died Monday, January 29, 2018, at the age of 80 years, five days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Phillips on January 9, 1981.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Tabernacle Christian Church and attended the Campbellsville Christian Church for many years. She was a teacher in the Adair County School System for over 40 years. She taught in the one room schools, Knifley and Shepherd Grade Centers. She was a graduate of Campbellsville College and received her Master Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Betty was very active in the Adair County and Taylor County Homemakers Clubs.

Surviving are
  • Two daughters: Angie (Allen) Johnson of Campbellsville, KY; and Pam (Mike) Flanagan of Somerset, KY

  • Three grandchildren; Andrea (Chris) Hutson of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Alex (Jennifer) Johnson of Campbellsville, KY, Ryan Flanagan of Atlanta, Georgia

  • Two great grandchildren; Brooklyn Johnson and Luke Johnson

  • And a host of friends.
