The Adair County High School Academic Team kept their legacy going on Saturday, January 27, 2018m when the team took home the Governor's Cup District Championship for the 13th year in a row. The competition took place at Green County High School where the team swept both team events, winning each round of Quick Recall to earn 1st Place and ranking 1st among all judges in Future Problem Solving to take home that championship as well.

In addition, the team qualified 9 different individuals for the Regional Championships. The team took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in both Language Arts and Arts and Humanities categories. Maddie Harmon (10th grade) took home 1st place in Language Arts and 2nd Place in Arts and Humanities. Teammate Chris Stuchell (11th grade) finished 2nd in Language Arts and 3rd in Arts and Humanities. Trevor Smith (11th grade) took home the Arts and Humanities Championship and finished in 2nd Place in Social Studies. The 3rd Place winner in Language Arts was Samuel Willis (11th grade).

The team also took 1st and 2nd places in Math and Science. Keaton Coomer (10th grade) won the Math competition, and 2nd Place went to Lauren McQuaide (12th grade). Benjamin Hancock (12th grade) captured the Science Championships, and Ty Cheatham (10th grade) finished in 2nd. Lejano Zavalija (12th grade) competed for the first time in Composition and qualified for Region as well with a 4th Place finish in the event.

"The respect this group has earned among their fellow competitors, and the way teams recognize what the name 'Adair' means when they walk in the room is very rewarding to them," Coach Brett Reliford commented. "Their work has really paid off once again, and even though we've worked at making this a program that can repeat each year, the feeling is still the same when the students are reaching personal goals."

The team has the highest number of individuals qualifying in the entire 18-team Region. In six different testing areas, each team is allowed to enter up to three competitors. The top 5 out of all school representatives competing in each testing area qualify for the next level.

The Future Problem Solving team members were Benjamin Hancock, Arabella Caldwell, Lejano Zavalija, and Chris Stuchell. Quick Recall members competing at District were Ben Hancock, Trevor Smith, Maddie Harmon, Keaton Coomer, Samuel Willis, Ty Cheatham, Jaiden Taylor, Arabella Caldwell, CJ Bonifer, Elizabeth Rexroat, and Alex Godsey. The Governor's Cup Regional Championship will be held at South Warren in Bowling Green on February 12 and February 17.
