The Adair County Board of Elections met January 25, 2018 in its regular 4th Thursday meeting in the Adair County Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, and welcomed two new board members.

First on the agenda was approval of Sheriff Harrison Moss' nomination for his replacement. He cannot serve on the board while he is a candidate for re-election.

Ricky Collins moved to accept the Sheriff's nomination of Deputy Josh Durbin and, in his last official act as board member, Sheriff Moss provided the second for Durbin's nomination and he was duly sworn in.

The Chair then welcomed Victoria Pike to her new state-approved position on the Board of Elections. She has served as an Election Officer for a number of years. The Adair County Democrat Party submitted her to the Secretary of State after the resignation of Ben Loy and she was approved as the newest member of the board. She, too, took the oath of office. She will represent Democrats, joining Ricky Collins who represents the Republican party.

Chairman Greer thanked former Democrat Board Member Ben Loy for his dedication and service of more than a decade.

With acceptance of this new position, Vicky Pike is no longer able to be an Election Officer, creating a third opening for persons who would be interested in the job. The pay is $100 per election day and the number of hours in that day vary, depending on how the precinct closes out at the end of voting. In addition to election day pay the training day compensation is $20 and there is a $5 vehicle allowance for bringing the Precinct totals to the Courthouse Annex at the close of voting.

Both Adair County Democrat and Republican party chairs, Wendy Burt and Jason Rector, respectively, have been notified, requesting suggestions at the February meeting for poll workers to fill these positions.

A lot of thought and planning are going into the challenge of reaching every Hurt Precinct voter to let them know about the change in location of their voting place. The Hurt Precinct voting place has moved from the former VFW location on Fairground Street to the newly opened VFW building, 500 Green Hills Road, Columbia. Two directional signs will be posted, one on each end of Green Hills Road and cards will be sent out to each voter.
