Geneva Young Barnes, 83, Adair County, KY (1934-2017)

She had professed faith in Christ. She had retired from Ohio Bell after a career of 40 plus years working as a telephone operator. She was a member of a highly regarded Adair County, KY, family, the daughter of the late Edward & Anna Valma Blair Young and the widow of John Barnes. She leaves seven and one expected direct and one step living descendants.

Geneva Young Barnes age 83, Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday December 12, 2017 at 9:05pmCT, at TJ Health Columbia Emergency Room. Funeral service will be Friday, December 15, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, , 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 10amCT/11amET, at Arlington Cemetery, Montgomery County, Ohio, with burial to follow.

She was born on April 9, 1934 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Edward & Anna Valma Blair Young. She died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 83 years, eight months, and three days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Barnes on January 3, 1985.

She is survived by
  • One son: Dwayne (Teresa) Hargis of Columbia, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Kim (Daniel) Kean of Columbia, KY; Dennis Hargis of Columbia, KY; and Lisa (James Taulbee) Hargis of Lexington, KY

  • Three great grandchildren: Kila Kean, Katelyn Kean & Michael Hargis

  • One step-great grandchildren: Chris Kean

  • One expected great grandchild

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
