She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty. She was a housewife. Ms. Smither will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the daughter of Andrew "B" & Sara Elizabeth "Lizzie" Lay Monday and the widow of Basil Smither. She leaves 12 direct living descendants.

Ova Lee Monday Smither, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Casey County Hospital, Liberty.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30pmCT/1:30pmET, on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Larry Crenshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5pm-8pmCT/6pm-9pmET, on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.



Pallbearers will be Ronald Girard, Justin Girard, Lilbern Monday, Gary Smither, Steve Smither and Matthew Atwood.

Born on July 8, 1924, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Andrew "B" & Sara Elizabeth "Lizzie" Lay Monday. She died Wednesday, November 22, 2017, in Liberty, Casey County, KY, at the age of 93 years, four months, and 14 days.

Ova was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty. She was a housewife. Ms. Smither will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include:
  • A daughter: Donna Sue Girard of Goshen, Ohio

  • A son: Donald D. (Charlotte) Smither of Liberty, KY

  • A granddaughter: Leah (Matt) Atwood of Liberty, KY

  • A grandson: Ronald Glenn Girard of Goshen, Ohio

  • Four great-grandchildren: Landon Matthew and Andrew Wade Atwood of Liberty, KY; Justin (Staci) Girard of Goshen, Ohio; and Brittney Girard of Palm Harbor, FL
In addition to her parents, Ova is predeceased by her husband, Basil Smither; four sisters, Ola Monday, Mattie McFarland, Lela Davis and Geneva Monday; five brothers, Ozie Mondie, Willie Monday, Elbern Monday, Ollie Monday, and Nova Monday; and a son-in-law, Marvin Glenn Girard.
