By Christopher Coombs COLUMBIA, KY - (Fri Nov 17 2017) Seventh-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer hosts William Woods (MO) Saturday in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY, at 11:30 amCT on Saturday, November 18, 2017. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 6pmCT, Saturday, but forecasted weather conditions for Saturday night forced an earlier start time. The Blue Raiders (13-3-0) received an at-large bid into the national championship field. Lindsey Wilson is making its 24th all-time appearance at the national tournament and owns a 51-13-6 record. Lindsey Wilson last played to a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Cumberland (Tenn.) during the Mid-South Conference Championship game on November 10. Nicholas Marcano scored the Blue Raider goal on a corner kick from Mutaya Mwape during the 38th minute. Cumberland evened the score at 1-1 with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation and then scored again in the second overtime period to win the MSC Tournament. Tyler Collishaw leads the team in points (42) and goals (19) after appearing in just 10 games this season. Mwape has a team-high 11 assists and is second in goals (11). The Blue Raiders rank second in the NAIA in goals per game (4.3) and sixth in total goals with 68. William Woods (13-3-3) qualified for the national tournament as the American Midwest Conference regular season champion. The Owls are making their first-ever appearance in the national tournament. Rodrigo Alves has scored a team-high 13 goals and leads the team in points with 30. This is just the second meeting between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson won the first ever meeting on September 17, 1999 by a final score of 8-1. The winner of Saturdays contest will advance to the National Championship final site in Delray Beach, Florida to face the winner of Marymount (CA) and Westmont (CA) on Tuesday, November 28.
