Red Lick United Methodist Church, 3976 Mosby Ridge Road, Edmonton, KY , will have a Packing Party for Operation Christmas Child on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 11amCT The church has been participating in this program for several years. This year Samaritan's Purse came out with new plastic boxes that are much sturdier and will last longer for the kids that receive them all over the world. Red Lick's boxes were paid for through monies received from Thrivent Financial's Live Generously Program where members of Thrivent Financial can apply for funds to assist with charitable projects.
This year the boxes from the United States are not allowed to include toothpaste (due to some government regulations in some of the countries), food or candy, or anything liquid.<
School supplies and personal items (combs, soap, toothbrushes, washcloths, etc.), clothing and a "WOW" gift (a soccer ball, stuffed toy, ball or doll) are always welcomed. Each box costs $9 to ship, and considering it must be sent across the world and then may be delivered by boat, oxcart, truck or horseback, that is a bargain!) Carol and Chris Mullins and Bill and Chris Lagermann met at the church Sunday to sort items and get some basic things in each of the 100 boxes so the congregation will have a head start at the Packing Party.
Carol Mullins is shown in the accompanying photo here sorting the items. There is a lot of satisfaction in knowing 100 children will receive one of our boxes and learn about the love of Jesus Christ. Each box has a photo of the members of our congregation with a short note on the back. We can't wait to see if we get any correspondence from any of the recipients.
