Samuel Depp Byrd, Metcalfe County, KY (1931-2017)

Sam was a farmer and member of the Antioch Baptist Church at Knob Lick. He was also a United States Army Veteran. He was the patriarch of a respected Metcalfe County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Corbett & Estil Edwards Byrd. His wife, Helen Poynter Byrd, survives. He leaves 21 direct living descendants.

Samuel Depp Byrd age 86 of Knob Lick, KY, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Friday, October 27, 2017, at Antioch Baptist Church, 4981 Sulphur Well Knob Lick Road, Knob Lick, KY, with burial in the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT, Thursday, October 26, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, and after 9amCT, Friday at the Antioch Baptist Church.



Samuel Depp Byrd, Metcalfe County, KY (1931-2017)


He was the son of the late Corbett & Estil Edwards Byrd. He was born October 5, 1931. He died October 23, 2017, in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 86 years, 18 days.
Sam was a farmer and member of the Antioch Baptist Church at Knob Lick. He was also a United States Army Veteran.

Sam is survived by his wife, Helen Poynter Byrd, and the following:
  • Five children: Daryl and wife Beverly Byrd of Hiseville, KY; Debbie and husband Greg Wilkerson of Lanesville, IN; Shonnie Thixton of Louisville, KY; Lisa Mosier of Knob Lick, KY; and Jo and husband Jim Alexander of Knob Lick, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Jodi, Jamie, Sarah, Holly and Randi

  • Seven great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Luther, William and Clifton Byrd; and four sisters.
