Edwin Murphy, Casey County, KY (1923-2017)

He was a former mechanic and employee of the Casey County Road Department. He was a member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army Veteran and was a member of many military auxiliaries in Casey County that include the VFW and the DAV. Above all, Ed will be most remembered for his dedicated service to the Casey County Funeral Squad; where he served hundreds of families for over 60 years. He was the son of the late G.W. "Doc" Murphy & Lucy Allen Murphy, and the widow of Fern Elliott Murphy. He leaves 12 direct living descendants.

Edwin Murphy, 94, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services are at 1pmCT/2pmET, Friday, October 20, 2017 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Brother Rodney Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 9am-1pmCT/10am-2pmET, Friday at the funeral home.



Edwin Murphy, Casey County, KY (1923-2017)


Born in the Pricetown Community of Casey County on February 17, 1923, he was a son of the late G.W. "Doc" & Lucy Allen Murphy. He died Monday, October 16, 2017, in Liberty, Casey County, KY, at the age of 94 years, seven months, and 29 days.

Ed was a former mechanic and employee of the Casey County Road Department. He was a member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. Ed was a WWII Army Veteran and was a member of many military auxiliaries in Casey County that include the VFW and the DAV. Above all, Ed will be most remembered for his dedicated service to the Casey County Funeral Squad; where he served hundreds of families for over 60 years.

Survivors include:
  • Two daughters: Judy (Boyd) Brown of Liberty, KY; and Janie (Paul) Rudolph of Louisville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Ken, Lydia, John and Jamie

  • Five great-grandchildren: Corey, Isaac, Mattie, Jack and Jett

  • Two great-great-grandchildren: Arthur and Kai

  • One sister: Helena McDonald of Liberty, KY,
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fern Elliot Murphy, who passed away on November 3, 2015; six brothers, Sherman, Fred, Kenneth, James, Claud, and Sherwood Murphy; and three sisters, Matie Decker, Irene Lay and Myrtle Harmon.
