Era Mayrine Furkin Shirley, Green County/Adair Co. native (1925-2017)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summer Shade United Methodist Church. She was also a retired examiner for Fruit of the Loom, Inc. She was a member of a large, respected family with strong roots in Adair, Green, and Metcalfe Counties and elsewhere. She was the daughter of the late Paul Furkin & Bertha Pickett Furkin, and the widow of William Dennis Shirley, her husband of 64 years. She leaves 22 direct living descendants spanning five generations

Mrs. Era Mayrine Furkin Shirley, 92, of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Green Hill Rehab and Care Center, Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Era Mayrine Shirley will be conducted at 1pmCT, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Keltner Community of Adair County. Bro. Bill Davenport and Bro. Joseph Wilcoxson will officiate. Visitation is requested 4pm-8pmCT, Monday, October 2, 2107, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Tuesday until time of the funeral service.

Era Mayrine Shirley, Green Co./Adair Co. native (1925-2017)

Mrs. Era Mayrine Furkin Shirley was the daughter of the late Paul Furkin & Bertha Pickett Furkin. She was born on Friday, March 6, 1925 in Adair County, KY and departed this life on Friday, September 29, 2017 in Greensburg, Green County, KY. She was 92 years, 6 months, and 23 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summer Shade United Methodist Church. She was also a retired examiner for Fruit of the Loom, Inc.

She united in marriage to William Dennis Shirley on February 16, 1946 who preceded her in death on August 2, 2010.

Survivors include:
  • A daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and Homer Simpson of Greensburg, KY

  • A son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Marilyn Shirley of Greensburg, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Anthony and Chasity Shirley, Christy and Jody Marr, Angela and Scott Bettens, Joe Moon, and Rick Stout

  • Eleven great-grandchildren: Gavin Shirley, Jagger Shirley, Kingston Shirley, Lennon Shirley, Rachel Marr, Jayden Marr, Jordie Marr, Faith Bettens, Ashley Moon, Kristoffer Moon, and Amber Stout

  • Three great-great-grandchildren: Ethan Moon, Shawn Propes, and Shane Lovins

  • A great-great-great-grandchild: Jazzalyn Propes

  • A sister: Maxine Finley of Indiana

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
Mrs. Shirley was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Varner K. "Bud" Moon on May 10, 2009; three sisters and two brothers: Christine Rock, Ernestine Wilham, Josephine Burton, Wheeler Furkin, and Howard Furkin.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Summer Shade United Methodist Church, which can be made at the funeral home.
