LWC Athletics participates in Malvina Farkle Day A grateful Columbia/Adair County Community was overwhelming in praise for the athletes for getting things done today. - LW Click on headline for full story - there's more past the YouTube video for today By Chris Coombs News from Lindsey Wilson College Athletics COLUMBIA, KY (Wed 20 Sep 2017) - Lindsey Wilson College student-athletes, coaches and administrators joined a campus-wide community service initiative around the Columbia area to commemorate Malvina Farkle Day on Wednesday. There's more to this story: The Blue Raiders took a break from their regular academic and athletic obligations to help repay the community for their continued support. "Malvina Farkle Day is always a special day for our campus as we serve others," Lindsey Wilson Athletics Director Willis Pooler said. "I'm proud of the work our student-athletes and coaches do to serve our local community. It gives them an opportunity to show appreciation for the support they receive from fans and friends in Adair and the surrounding counties." The wrestling, women's soccer, football, bowling, cross country and track and field teams all participated in a community-wide trash pickup effort. The wrestling and junior varsity women's soccer teams picked up trash along Jamestown Street within the city limits, while the varsity women's soccer team cleaned the Adair County Little League Park. Members of the bowling program cleaned along Fairgrounds Street as the cross country and track and field teams hit Bull Run Road. The football team collected trash along Highway 80 East and made their way into the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park and the surrounding area. The men's basketball program spent the day painting the Courthouse on the square and washing windows. Members of the men's and women's tennis, men's junior varsity basketball, women's basketball and cycling teams participated in campus improvement projects to the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, Biggers Sports Center, the LWC Cycling Complex and the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining Center. The volleyball team visited the Ole Homeplace, an adult daycare health center, while the swimming team visited Summit Manor to spend time with the residents. The men's soccer team went to the Adair County Primary Center and spent time with young students during physical education class. "As our student-athletes embrace community service, they not only help others, but they themselves benefit from that community engagement," Pooler said. Malvina Farkle day is a yearly tradition at Lindsey Wilson College where the campus gives back to the surrounding area through community-service activities in the morning followed by fun and games in the afternoon.
