From Commonwealth News Center

FRANKFORT, KY - (Fri 8 Sep 2017) - Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) is sending an Incident Management Team (IMT) to South Carolina to provide assistance with the impending Hurricane Irma. KYEM staff and various emergency response teams are leaving today and will be assisting with Points of Distribution (POD) and operational management and coordination efforts. The IMT consists of personnel from KYEM, Grant County EMA, Campbell County Fire District #1, Campbell County EMA, Piner/Fiskburg Fire District and Boone County EMA.

On Thursday, KYEM officials received a request from South Carolina asking for an IMT to support existing emergency personnel. The requests are coordinated and authorized through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). EMAC is a mutual aid agreement between states and territories in the United States. It enables states to share resources during natural and man-made disasters. Under EMAC agreements, the requesting state reimburses all associated costs incurred by the provider state.

KYEM officials have been tracking the approaching hurricane and preparing for probable EMAC requests. Michael E. Dossett, director of KYEM, stated "Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens and first responders who will be impacted by this powerful hurricane. The Commonwealth stands ready to assist our partner states in any way we are able."
