Robert Cumming: Homeplace eagle feather quandary Learned a big lesson Saturday, September 9, 2017, at raptor exhibit at Homeplace on Green River Fall Festival Click on headline for complete story By Robert Cumming Saturday afternoon while attending the Green River Homeplace Festival I noticed an interesting feather about eight inches long on the ground in front of my car where I parked north of the Feed Lot Barn. I picked it up, and admiring my lucky find, carried it about 60 yards over to where the Liberty Nature Center raptor exhibit was. I observed the extensive array of live birds of prey on display and listened to the Nature Center representative giving a talk while other assistants actually holding these birds walked close to the crowd. Presently one of the assistants noticed me holding the feather I had just found and came over and quietly asked me for it, saying if I was caught in possession of an eagle feather I could be fined in excess of $5000! Wow, I couldn't believe it! That feather must have come from the eagle on display and in the 20 mph wind blowing that afternoon blown 60 yards over to where I was parked where I found it. I learned a big lesson today! - Robert Cumming This story was posted on 2017-09-10 03:02:11
