Become an Outdoors-Woman This September

Registration for the annual Kentucky Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop in September is now open. The weekend program is designed for women 18 and older who want to learn more about the outdoors and develop a variety of outdoor skills, including hunting and fishing.

The event is Sept. 15-17 at Camp Robert C. Webb on Grayson Lake. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources sponsors the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program, which more than 3,000 women have attended since it began.

Classes offered include basic hunting, advanced fishing, basic rifle use, introduction to crossbows and more. Four classes are included with registration along with meals and lodging at the conservation camp. Participants may also bring their own tent and camp, or stay at a local hotel.

BOW only costs $95 a person. The program runs from noon Friday through noon Sunday. Participants should have a hunting or fishing license.

"BOW is a great way for women to learn outdoor skills or just gain more confidence in what outdoor skills they already possess," BOW Coordinator Olivia Dangler said. "We offer a relaxed setting and instructors with the patience to help students get more out of the outdoors."

For more information, contact Kentucky Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-858-1549 from 8amET to 4:30pmET on weekdays. Registration links and additional information are available online at fw.ky.gov by searching under the keyword "BOW." Due to their nature, many classes are limited in size and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Camp Robert C. Webb is located in northeastern Kentucky near Grayson. The address is 1486 Camp Webb Road.
