Doug & Debbie White, others heading a Hurricane relief effort Collection of supplies underway now for truck which is expected to leave Columbia, KY for Houston, TX with a target date Monday, September 24, 2017. Local efforts are being coordinated with Eight Days of Hope, a Christian ministry headquartered in Tupelo, MS. By Debbie White Doug and I, along with the Band of Brothers at the Columbia Christian Church, are organizing relief efforts for Houston victims of Hurricane Harvey, which will be coordinated with the Eight Days of Hope organization. We are now collecting donations to take to Houston when Doug and I are given the signal to proceed. The drop off point for our effort will be the Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Donations will need to be dropped off by Monday, September 4, 2017, and hours are 8am-12pmNoonCT. Contacts are Debbie White, 270-634-1441 or Bob Barnes, 270-250-4073. A list of items needed follows: Paper plates, bowls, 10-12oz. cups, plastic forks, spoons, knives, napkins, paper towels, large canisters of coffee, gallon size tea bags, lemon aid mix,sugar, lunch bags, individual packages of chips, nabs, cookies, protein bars, fruit cups, granola bars, cake mixes and icing. Large cans of vegetables, canned fruit, instant pudding mixes, pasta, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, velvetta cheese, gravy mixes, etc.The items listed are needed for preparing meals for home owners and volunteers. Doug and I volunteer with the Eight Days of Hope Rapid Response team. We have just returned from Mannington, WV, helping flood victims there and look forward to working with the team in Texas. Bob Barnes is expected to volunteer in Texas when his services are needed. My understanding is that the Band of Brothers will arrive somewhat later in the rebuilding phase begins. We'll do our best to keep everyone in Columbia updated on our efforts through various media. For those who wish to volunteer or to make 501(c) donations, the website is EightDaysof Hope.com.
