LWC inducts 19 into inaugural Psi Chi class The Lindsey Wilson College community welcomed a new academic honor society to campus on Tuesday evening, March 26, 2024. Psi Chi is the international psychology honor society dedicated to encouraging academic excellence, exploration and advancing the science of psychology. The LWC Psi Chi chapter of the honor society is open to students who have declared their major, minor or equivalent in psychology and have excelled in their studies more broadly. According to chapter advisor Assistant Professor of Psychology Jordan Greenburg, membership in the organization is lifelong and students can benefit from its opportunities even after graduation. "This first class of students represents an elite level in our program," said Greenburg. "We are excited they are joining this organization. Bruns named assistant VP for finance at CU By Gerard Flanagan, lead writer and communications specialist, Office of Marketing and Communications Campbellsville University has promoted Tracy Bruns to assistant vice president for finance. Proud of Lady Indians who also made it to Elite 8 We're grateful to Amy Roy Keys who reminded us, after we posted ACHS basketball coaches who'd gone to state, "don't leave out Coach Kim Goodin's Lady Indians!" The Lady Indians of 1992 remain the only Adair County girls basketball team to have ever made it into the Elite 8. Much like the 2024 boys team, the Lady Indians made it through their first game to become part of the Elite 8. Amy remembers they lost on a last-second, three-point shot at the end of that second game. KY county unemployment data for February 2024 From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates rose in 112 counties between February 2023 and February 2024, including Adair and all surrounding counties. Rates fell in Bullitt, Elliott, Shelby and Spencer counties, and remained the same in Lewis, Meade, Nicholas and Washington counties, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 3.7%. It was followed by Washington County, 3.8%; Marion County, 4%; Fayette and Spencer counties, 4.1% each; Oldham, Scott and Shelby counties, 4.2% each; and Anderson and Nelson counties, 4.3% each. CPD: Inmate charged with possesion of contraband By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department On Thursday morning, March 28, 2024, the Columbia Police Department responded to Adair Regional Jail for a report of located contraband. A female inmate was found to have several prescription pills she was attempting to conceal which jail staff located during a booking search. The female had previously been arrested for drug charges before being transported to Adair Regional Jail. Adair School Board March meeting report By Linda Waggener We get a 'tardy' score on this report, but still want to share the good news of the March Adair County school board meeting. The meeting date was changed so everyone could attend the ACHS boys basketball team's first game in the state tournament. With momentum around that, things moved quickly through the agenda items. Some of the most exciting news is the new middle school, underway now beside the high school, which Superintendent Jason Faulkner said, "is beginning to come up out of the ground - an exciting site to visit." LWC Health and Wellness Center - a gathering place By Macy Welsh The community of Columbia thrives off of locality and unity. Whether it be fellowship with one another or running into a friend in town you have not seen for a while. Columbia is home to Lindsey Wilson College, a private institution for students to further their education at the college level. Being away from home, family and community are important to have, and LWC provides just that. The Holloway Health and Wellness Center is a place for not only students, but community members to come and congregate with one another. In an interview with Tori Starks, the Director of the Holloway Health and Wellness Center, she stated that it is a "Great gathering place, not only for students, but the community." Adair KUNA Team wins big again in 2024! From Candice Flatt Gifted Coordinator for Adair County Schools Adair County's Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) team won big at the state's convention this week in Louisville. They debated world issues with other schools from Kentucky. Bailey Watts received the International Court of Justice President. This is one of the top honors of the competition. She will be replacing Brody Blair, who won last year. We are are so honored to have students win this position back to back. Trey Stephens received the Outstanding Ambassador award. This is a big honor, as well. Our delegation as a whole won the Premier Delegation award. The conference overall was a huge success.
