Remembering Mildred Hale & Arles & Mildred's story She and the love of her life, Arles Hale, were married in Columbia, KY, in 1945, at the Columbia Presbyterian Church. Click on headline for complete story Related: Mildred Winfrey Hale, Russell County, KY (1925-2017) By a Cousin Mildred Winfrey, later Hale, was a member of the Russell Springs High class of 1945. Her sketch in the "Hi-Lights of R.S.H.S." column in the "Russell County News," written by fellow student Jean Flanagan, stated that: "Her eyes sparkle like diamonds, her black hair glistens in the sunlight.Just before Thanksgiving 1945, Mildred, then a student at Lindsey Wilson, and Arles Hale, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, he recently returned from military service abroad and still on active duty, were married in Columbia at the Presbyterian Church.
