J.D. was a truck driver and retired from Ryder Trucking Company. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Hill & Valley Saddle Club; he also enjoyed riding horses and fishing. His wife, Lucy Richard Long, survives.

James Daniel "J.D." Long Sr., age 85 years of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at 5:04 PM at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. J.D. was born June 15, 1932 in Green County, KY the son of the late Ira Elmer and Sarah Elizabeth Curry Long.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Rick Shelton the officiating clergy. Interment is at Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, with Full Military Honors by the local VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 4pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: James Murphy, Dillan Long, Logan Clark, Jessie Wayne Coomer, Kevin Turpin and ; Brandon Turpin.

James Daniel "J.D." Long Sr., was born June 15, 1932 in Green County, KY. He was the son of the late Ira Elmer & Sarah Elizabeth Curry Long. He died Monday, July 17, 2017, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 85 years, one month, and two days.

In addition to his parent he was preceded in death by one son; Donald Joe Long: two brothers; William Ernest Long and John "Bobby" Long: and one sister; Georgia Mae Pittman.

He is survived by his wife Lucy Richard Long, of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Three sons: Jim Long and his wife Susan of Winter Springs, FL; Ricky Long and his wife Cecelia of Orlando, FL; and Thomas Douglas Long and his wife Brandy of Columbia, KY

  • Three Daughters:< Lula Ann Turpin and her husband Kevin of Indianapolis, IN; Mae Murphy and her husband James of Columbia, KY; Mary Elizabeth Long of Columbia, KY<

  • One brother: Charles Ray Long of Indianapolis, IN

  • One sister: Marie Bahr of Indianapolis, IN

  • Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren survive

  • Several nieces, nephews

  • And a host of other relatives & friends
J.D. was a truck driver and retired from Ryder Trucking Company. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Hill & Valley Saddle Club; he also enjoyed riding horses and fishing.
