New Russell Co., KY Community Based Services office opened Secretary Glisson, Commissioner Johnson & Speaker Hoover help open new Russell County Social Services Office, 650 N Main Street, Jamestown. It's open from 8amCT to 4:30pmCT By Doug Hogan News from the KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services FRANKFORT, KY (Mon 26 Jun 2017) - The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS), part of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), officially opened its new Russell County office today. DCBS is the agency that provides child and adult protective services and determines eligibility for Medicaid, welfare assistance, child care assistance, food stamps and other programs. "Our priority is to provide quality and timely services to all families who seek our assistance," Secretary Glisson said. "These new offices will help us meet that goal. I am so pleased for the staff and customers of Russell County DCBS to use these nice new facilities." The celebration included a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception with agency leadership, local leaders from various segments of the community and elected officials including Kentucky State House of Representatives Speaker Jeff Hoover. "The services our community receives from the County Social Services Office are vital to so many residents," said Speaker Hoover. "Beyond the actual people that the new office will serve better, this project is a great example of better efficiency and more diligent handling of state resources. I'm grateful our community and state officials were able to come together to make this a reality, and I look forward to improved collaboration between interested parties to help families in our region and to give them the resources necessary to be successful, no matter the circumstances." DCBS Commissioner Adria Johnson said the new office space has almost 10,000 square feet of space, which is much larger than the agency's previous two separate offices. The new renovated location also features two family visitation rooms with electronic surveillance, private intake windows for clients to start their case process and low energy lighting, which will result in cost savings for the state. The updates and consolidated office ultimately mean more convenience for customers, Johnson said. "We made these changes with our staff and customers in mind," she said. "The visitation rooms are clean, welcoming and safe. And co-housing our department offices means clients can get more comprehensive services and consolidate visits into one trip." The office is located at 650 N Main Street, Jamestown. It's open from 8amCT to 4:30pmCT To contact staff about family support services, like food benefits or medical, welfare or child care assistance, call 855- 306-8959.
