Summer learning continues at Camp Rocket Click headline for story with photos By Dana Harmon, 21st CCLC Director The learning continues both indoors and out this summer at Adair County Primary Center, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia. Camp Rocket participants have spent two hours and thirty minutes each day sharpening their reading and math skills, an hour on academic enrichment, a whole lot of physical activity and tons of fun! In addition each day a community partner has brought a special lesson on a variety of subjects ranging from the importance of summer reading to bicycle safety. Research shows that over the course of the summer, students can lose up to 2 months worth of work from the previous school year. Summer learning loss can create a gap of up to 2 to 5 years by the time students reach high school. Summer Learning Programs like 21st CCLC-Camp Rocket help our students prevent summer learning loss by engaging them in learning activities during the summer months. This summer we have had a very dedicated group of teachers who have given their all to make sure students continue to learn and have fun, Lisa Hayes, Jennifer Perkins, Christina Ferguson and Lou Anne Coomer have done an outstanding job of keeping students engaged and active. We have also had some excellent community partners, who have brought great lessons and usually goodies to share with our students. We could not do what we do without them all.
